Day 5 of our road trip was a take it easy day. We had been driving and hiking non stop so we decided to do a simple but stunning 6 mile hike in Kodachrome State Park called Panorama Trail and then spent the rest of the day napping and playing cards at our cabin campsite. While this was a more laid back day compared to the rest of our trip, it gave us a chance to recuperate which is something we needed after sleeping in the car for the first 4 days of our trip.
Kodachrome Basin State Park Info:
-How to get there: The park is extremely easy to get in and out of, as there is only one way in and out. All of the trails are located off of the main road so they are quite easy to find, and you receive a map when entering the park.
-How much does it cost: To enter the park there is a $8 fee. If you would like to camp it is first come first serve and varies from $20-80 a night depending on how you are camping and how many people are in your group.
-What to bring: If you plan on hiking any of the trails be sure to bring extra water, snacks, camera, and wear good hiking shoes. Most of the trails are a minimum of 3 miles round trip.
-What to look out for: Everything is simple and easy to access. There is limited bathrooms and not every trail has one. They do have picnic areas but they are not shaded, and they do not have any nearby areas to get food, so I would stop in the town before (Cannonville) to get food.

Trail Description: Panorama trail is a relatively flat trail with a few geological features throughout the 6 mile loop. You have the option while hiking this trail to make “pit stops” at Big Bear Spire, Cool Cave, and Secret Passage to check out some cool rock formations and make the hike longer if you want to. The trail has only a few slight elevation gains and has plenty of photo opportunities. Hikers, bikers, and horseback riders all share this trail.
